Color Is As Easy As A Little Paint

So I am surfing the DIY Network and I came across this gem and what do you know? I am IN LOVE! I will be trying this very soon. Just look at that COLOR and the shapes are amazing! For the details and even more suggestions on paint go to DIY.

The Colors of My Life

I love the colors of the late 60s and early 70s. You can see it reflected in almost every surface of my home. Someone once asked me, 'What ARE the colors of the 60s and 70s?" and I have to say that, in my humble opinion, they are avocado green, bright orange, harvest gold and a woody brown.

I would KILL for appliances in any of those colors but sadly my budget won't allow me to purchase such amazing retro items so I must satisfy myself with cloth, paint, glassware and wood in those colors.

Here are a few nifty things I found trolling around on the net.

Canisters and appliances in avocado green are to die for! : )

Again, my love of colored appliances shines through!

I almost swooned when I saw this kitchen!

Wouldn't these make AMAZING curtains?

On a completely unrelated note: Wouldn't I be a groovy chick in these shoes carrying those suitcases?

It's All In The Details

I believe it is the little things that make the difference when it comes to decorating. I have been accused of overdoing it and I believe I might be guilty but I figure if it makes me happy then it is all good!

For the past two weeks I  have been working on my kitchen. It is coming along nicely if I do say so myself. One of the things that I do is to cover my light switch plates. I have used almost everything available in the way of paper. This time around I used printed images of old material from the 1970s.

Here are the current switch plates.

This one is next to my sink.

The ones below are on the walls in the kitchen.

I learned a little something about the light plate below. It is in a style called "faux bois" which is French for false wood. I paid a whopping $1.00 for it and after looking it up on the various sites it appears that I got a pretty good deal! : )

More about faux bois can be found on this nifty Pinterest board.

Revamping Old Pictures

I found some amazing pictures at a garage sale. Actually, the frames were amazing, the pictures, not so much.
This is one of the pictures. They all featured chickens and roosters. Don't you DIG the groovy avocado green 70s frames or is it just me??

I carefully took the pictures out so that I could reuse the backing for the new incarnation of the item.
The back was pretty but a bit too dull for what I wanted so I opted for some nice orange paper.
I used the backing to cut the paper so I knew it would fit snugly. Now, how to attach it to the frame? Well, if you are married to a man like mine there is only ONE solution.....duct tape!
In this case it was actually Gorilla Tape a part of the Gorilla Family of adhesive products.
Yup, that will do it! What a lovely stuck tight taped thingy this is! ; )
A few wooden cut outs and a little hot glue later and VOILA!
Lovely pictures hung on my wall!

I love to re-purpose things because most of what I love can't be bought now. It is the vintage feel that I adore!

Summer's To Do List...

School is almost out and this is the time of year that I start my summer to do list. It has the usual stuff, clean the garage, vacuum all the corners in the house, clean out pantry, but this year I have a couple of really awesome things on my list!
First I will be painting my garage door a lovely shade of Spring Green to match my front door and my couch cushions on the porch. I have never painted a garage door so it will be a small adventure!

I am also making wall decor with an amazing set of pictures purchased from Etsy. When I get ready to do the project I will post the pictures for your viewing pleasure!

Once the weather turns unbearably hot I will retreat inside to sew. So far my list is:
- pot holders
- curtains
- covering pillows
- making my husband's Crown Royal quilt
- making a plethora of flowers from old ties

As summer ends I will start my canning. I have a lovely garden that is growing well so far. I hope to get jars of tomatoes, pickles and pepper relishes. More on that as the summer progresses.
